With the emergence of more advanced technology and innovative techniques in photography, more and more people—young and old—have become more interested in this form of art, whether they do it as a hobby or pursue it as a profession.

Over the years, photography has evolved, thanks to the digital technology that keeps coming out as more advanced and innovative. The evolution of cameras has made it easier for people to capture different subjects and create a brilliant and artistic picture.

Today, the world has seen so many aspiring and talented photographers, who showcase unique and brilliant perspective. While digital photography has made it easier for most of us to take different shots, it has also challenged photography as a profession, especially the traditional photographers who have perfected the art and practice of analogue photography.

This is why the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award continues to seek the most brilliant photographers in Australia. As a celebration of the contemporary photographic practice in the country, this award-giving body provides an opportunity for promising photographers to exhibit their talents and skills and get the chance to be given this special award.

The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award serves as among the most important annual surveys in the photography scene in Australia and features emerging photographers whose work perfectly exemplifies the contemporary photographic practice.

To be held on 28 March to 10 May at Gallery 1 of The Arts Centre Gold Coast, The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award will be showcasing impressive works of established photographers exhibited alongside emerging talents. These pieces feature a remarkable reflection of contemporary practice that plays with a variety of themes and approaches.

The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Foundation for the Arts, as well as national prizes including The Josephine Ulrick Literature Prize, were founded as an honour to the late great writer, poet and arts patron, Josephine Ulrick.
